| | 17eme Festival National des Vielles Mecaniques | | | For several years now people have said to me this rally is great and you should make the effort to go and see it. I am so glad that this year we took their advice and, in late July, set out on the 1100km one-way journey from England to Cazals in France.
The rally is held every two years, and is the equivalent of a country fair. The exhibits range from woodworking to vintage cars, tractors and stationary engines. Unlike the rallies I have been use to, this rally literately stops at 12 noon, where everyone then heads to the dinner tent. The exhibitors are then treated to traditional local food and wine. At 2pm the rally restarts and then at 6pm, all stops again for the evening meal.
The general public are left to wander around whilst the exhibitors have lunch.
There were around 70 stationary engines on display, and the moving exhibits such as tractors and the like, would every hour or so form a line and parade around the entire rally ground.

The next rally is in 2009 and I would recommend a visit. | | |
